Once the “CLASS IS IN SESSION” sign is on the door, please do not enter the room out of respect for those already in practice.

Friday Fitness

Qigong, (pronounced “chee gong”) was developed in China about four thousand years ago as part of traditional Chinese medicine. It uses gentle movements, breathing, and focused intent. The February class will cover a set of eight movements called Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade. We will be focusing on balance, stability, flexibility, stress reduction, and leg and core strength. This set of eight simple exercises has been practiced in China for nearly 1000 years. Originally, it was used by the Chinese army to build strength and health in harsh adverse conditions. Nowadays, the set is used to invigorate and strengthen the whole body including the internal organs.

The class is suitable for everyone.  Movements can be modified for walkers or chairs. (The instructor broke his right leg in mid-December, and is using this as part of his rehabilitation.)
