NOTICE OF BOARD VACANCY

ESTES VALLEY RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT

PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that pursuant to §32-1-905(2), C.R.S., the Board of Directors of the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District will appoint one eligible elector to fill one vacancy on the Board of Directors on February 21, 2023. This appointment will expire at the next regular election on May 2, 2023.

A qualified candidate for such vacant board seat is an eligible elector of the District who is registered to vote in the State of Colorado and one of the following: A resident of the District; or the owner (or the spouse or the civil union partner of the owner) of taxable real or personal property situated within the boundaries of the District; or a person who is obligated to pay taxes under a contract to purchase taxable property within the District.

Please complete and submit the Board of Directors Application to the Executive Director which will detail your qualifications for the Board position and be prepared to discuss your qualifications with the Board during their February 21, 2022 meeting. The deadline for submission of interest to fill such vacancy is Thursday, February 16, 2022.

2023 Regular District Election

The next regular election of the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District is on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. This will be a polling place election, with the option of obtaining an absentee ballot. Three (3) board positions will be filled, each to serve a four-year term.

The Estes Valley Recreation and Park District has historically held director elections in May of even-numbered years. This changes on May 2, 2023, when special district elections are held in odd-numbered years, due to a change from the state legislature.

Registered voters who live in or own property in the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District may vote in these elections. To be eligible to run for an open seat, you must reside or own property within the District boundaries.

Self-nominations will be accepted beginning Jan. 1, 2022.

Self-Nomination and Acceptance forms must be filed with the Designated Election Official before 5:30 pm on February 24, 2023.

This form must be filed with the EVRPD Designated Election Official before the close of business on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023 (i.e., 67 days before the election). To ensure candidates have time to amend the form if it is not sufficient, it is strongly recommended prospective candidates submit their self-nomination and acceptance form before 3 p.m. on the deadline date.

Qualifications to be a candidate are:

  • Must be an active registered voter in Colorado;

AND EITHER:

  • A resident of the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District; OR
  • The owner (or spouse/civil union partner of owner) of taxable real or personal property situated within the boundaries of the District; or
  • A person who is obligated to pay taxes under a contract to purchase taxable property within the District.

The Estes Valley Recreation and Park District's May 2023 election will be a polling place election. Polls will be open Tuesday, May 2 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Request an Absentee Ballot

This Application for Absentee Ballot (available for download at the bottom of the page) may be completed and submitted to the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District if you wish to request an absentee ballot or to apply for permanent absentee voter status with the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District. 

Applications will be accepted until the close of business Tuesday, April 25, 2023 for the May 2, 2023 election.

Beginning April 3, 2023, absentee ballots will be mailed to voters on the Permanent Absentee Voter list and to those who have submitted an absentee ballot application. For applications received after April 3, 2023, absentee ballots will be mailed within 72 hours from the date of receipt of the application. If you do not receive your ballot, or if you are unsure whether you are a Permanent Absentee Voter, please contact the DEO at 970.480.1359 or email heather@evrpd.com
